Data licence and attribution
Last updated 24 October 2026
Where the data comes from
Every address, permit and zoning record on Permit Gopher comes from a municipality's open-data portal, published under that municipality's open licence. We load each city's data on a schedule, record the licence text, version and date at every load, and use the data under the version in force on the date we accessed it. Permit Gopher is not a municipal service, and no municipality endorses it.
Each city's licence and attribution sentence
Wherever a city's data appears, on our pages, in exports, emails and API responses, it carries that city's attribution sentence, exactly as below. If you receive our data, you must carry the same sentences with it.
| Municipality | Attribution sentence | Licence |
|---|---|---|

| Edmonton | Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – City of Edmonton | Licence page |

Personal information
None of these licences grants any right to personal information, and we do not use any. Owner names are not in the data. The names of individuals who apply for permits are withheld, including where a city's work description repeats them. Phone numbers and email addresses are never copied. Company and contractor names appear as the city supplies them.
Terms for licensed data
- You may use, combine, analyse and build the data into your own products, including products you sell.
- Attribution passes through. Wherever you show or pass on the data, carry each city's attribution sentence. Every row has it in source_licence, and each delivery includes LICENCE.txt listing them all.
- Not a consent list; recipients are responsible for CASL. Contractor and company names are not permission to send commercial email.
- Do not try to re-identify withheld individuals, or add owner names or personal contact details to the data.
- Do not say or imply that any municipality, or Permit Gopher, endorses your product.
- If a city's licence ends your right to use its data, for example after a breach, your licence to that city's data from us ends too.
Contracts for licensed data may add terms of their own. Questions: [email protected].
